Liquid Damage

Water damage repair in Minneapolis.

Dropped your phone in the sink, spilled coffee on your laptop, or got caught in the rain? Bring it to NorthFix Tech inside Karmel Mall, Minneapolis. Power it off, skip the rice, and come in — the faster we clean the board, the better the outcome.

Liquid damage signs we treat

Water rarely kills a device instantly. What kills it is corrosion spreading across the board over the following days — which is why fast, proper cleaning matters more than drying.

  • Device won't turn on after getting wet
  • Screen shows lines, blotches or stays black
  • Won't charge, or charges only at certain angles
  • Speaker or microphone sounds muffled or dead
  • Random restarts, freezing or overheating
  • Camera fogged up or won't focus
  • Buttons or touchscreen unresponsive in places
  • Worked fine at first, then started failing days later

Why rice doesn't work

Rice may pull a little surface moisture, but it can't reach liquid trapped under shields on the logic board, and it does nothing about corrosion that has already started. Meanwhile, leaving the device powered or charging can short circuits that would otherwise have survived.

Come in as soon as possible

Same-day intake, free diagnosis. Even if the device seems fine, a cleaning now prevents a much bigger failure later.

How the repair works

Liquid damage work is careful, methodical cleaning — not a parts swap. Here's what we actually do.

Step 1

Free Diagnosis

We open the device, check the liquid indicators and inspect the board for corrosion and shorts.

Step 2

Board Cleaning

The logic board is disassembled and cleaned to remove corrosion and residue from the affected areas.

Step 3

Component Repair

Damaged connectors, ICs and parts are repaired or replaced, then the device is reassembled.

Step 4

Testing & Honest Verdict

We test charging, display, audio and cameras — and tell you plainly if a device can't be saved.

Water damage repair questions

What should I do right after dropping my phone in water?

Power it off and leave it off, don't plug it in to charge, and don't put it in rice — rice does nothing for corrosion. Bring it in as soon as you can; the sooner the board is cleaned, the better the odds.

Can a water damaged phone really be fixed?

Often, yes. The real damage is corrosion on the logic board, not the water itself. We open the device, clean the board and repair or replace the damaged components. We can't promise every device is recoverable, and we'll tell you honestly after diagnosis.

How much does water damage repair cost?

It depends on what the liquid destroyed. Diagnosis is free and you get a firm quote before any work starts.

My phone still turns on after getting wet — do I still need it looked at?

Yes. Corrosion keeps spreading after the device dries, so a phone that works today can fail days or weeks later. A cleaning now is far cheaper than a board repair later.

Do you repair water damaged laptops and tablets?

Yes — spills on MacBooks, Windows laptops, iPads and Android tablets are some of the most common jobs we see.

What if my device can't be saved?

We'll tell you straight away, and we can attempt data recovery to get your photos, contacts and files off it.
